No need to wait for someone to invite you to dinner

Valentine’s Day isn’t only about couples — it is a day for love! Love can live in friendship, in the warmth of family, in the small everyday things that bring joy, and, most of all, in our relationship with ourselves. Yet we often forget this, because we tend to believe love has to come from outside — that it depends on another person, on whether someone has chosen us. But real love doesn’t begin with others. It begins with how we see ourselves, how we treat ourselves, and how much warmth and care we allow ourselves to feel.

Being alone on Valentine’s Day does not mean being unloved. It can be a chance to remember that we ourselves can be the ones who offer tenderness, compassion and attention. Have you ever noticed how you talk to yourself? Do you care for yourself the way you would want someone else to? We often look for love outside because we don’t give ourselves enough of it. We wait for someone to notice us, value us, choose us — but the question is whether we truly choose ourselves.

Valentine’s Day can be a time to turn toward yourself, without hurry and without criticism. Perhaps today, instead of waiting for someone to remember you, you could remember yourself? When we know how to be with ourselves, when we respect ourselves and allow ourselves to feel everything — joy and sadness alike — we become independent of whether anyone writes to us today, or whether flowers arrive.

Let Valentine’s Day be about you.
